AAI Abstractions & Extensibility
Relying on a fixed technology stack can cause numerous long term issues such as: * Dependence on EOL or outdated frameworks/software * Reduced agility means that more development cycles are spent retrofitting the codebase to use a new technology * Leads to maintenance problems as code is tailored to suit the idiosyncracies of a specific technology * Scalability problems Following a pattern that encourages the use of microservice abstractions provides us with the opportunity to reduce the impact that these problems impose on a development organization. This session discusses a technology stack in A&AI that uses this approach to allow for swappable graph database and underlying storage technology.

Model Driven Platform Policy
This 2-hour session is both presentations followed by panel discussion on how models can be used to specify platform policy. For ONAP to be truly self-service and to support adaptive model drive management and control, any Dev Operations team must be able to easily specify and validate platform level policy providing the foundation for service and resource related policies. Every company has Dev Ops requirements that share common needs, but differ in current infrastructure requirements. Having a flexible, simple information and data model that captures platform policy is necessary to support all the possible scenarios. In addition, platform-level policies must be able to integrate well and work efficiently with the service and resource level policies that evolve over their lifecycle. How can we define models that can meet the dynamic and changing needs of a policy-enabled ONAP without the time and expense of modifying software code? How can operation teams use ONAP policies to automatically respond to events and conditions, in order to reduce the time required to react while increasing overall network and service availability thereby reducing the labor and effort required to manage the complex infrastructure and services? To support self-service, how does a model-driven Policy Platform support the capabilities to administer policies and monitor policy execution, including: policy creation and editing, policy translation, policy harmonization (conflict detection/resolution), policy validation, policy activation and tracking, policy monitoring, and policy reporting? How can the ONAP community bring together the Policy Information and Data Models, the Use-Cases, Common Reference Points and exchange mechanisms that are essential to enabling a policy-based model-driven ONAP? How do Policies that were defined during on-boarding of a VNF evolve when they are consumed as part of the on-boarding and instantiation of service-level policies?

Configuring and Controlling a Wireless Network with ONAP
This session presentation is focused on demonstrating the capabilities and benefits of using ONAP and the ONF Common Information Model to configure and control a Wireless Network consisting of microwave and millimeter wave radios from 12 different vendors. A series of PoC's were completed with SDN-C, DCAE, A&AI, and vendor-developed mediators that translated the information model to/from the radios' proprietary representations. Using ONAP to configure and control wireless network elements via an open management interface based on a common information model truly works, with a few obvious and not-so-obvious caveats.

Achieving ONAP S3P with Standardized Object Model of Multi-Clouds
Today multi cloud objects and their hierarchical relationships are modeled in a cloud-specific way creating inconsistent modeling of similar features across multi clouds. The challenge is in both data management and interoperability among ONAP components such as onboarding, policy management, orchestration, optimization etc. This presentation discusses standardized Information Models for multi cloud objects (Physical/Logical DC, Tenant, Cluster, Host, VM, Container etc.) in terms of capabilities (platform awareness etc.), resource reservation/utilization and other parameters for current and future cloud implementations. It also discusses the hierarchical relationships between those multi cloud objects. It illustrates how policy, data management and optimization frameworks can benefit from this standardization through concrete examples thus addressing the challenges of ONAP R2 & beyond.

PNFs and Mixed Infrastructure Support for E2E Network Slicing
As NFV deployment expanded from central cloud to the edge, also with the trends of Cloud Native and MEC, there are increasing requirements for the NFV network support of mixed infrastructure resources, include: VMs, Containers, Bare metals, hardware accelerators (e.g. SmartNIC), dedicated PNFs etc. To enabling 5G RAN and EtE network slicing support, ONAP need the capability to be aware of the mixed infrastructure resources with generic data modelling description. Also need to extend orchestration and control capability to the PNFs and intra-cloud/CO site, to keep the consistency of network attributes and QoS guarantee of network slicing services. With the current limitation of VIM layer which mainly focus on the management and orchestration of virtual resources, limited awareness of the cloud infrastructure underneath, there are solid gaps for Service orchestration and VNF controllers to be aware of and consume the mixed cloud resources, especially when across domains. Expose the cloud infrastructure in a unified model driven way, also enrich the A&AI with an elastic, accurate, up to date infrastructure resources descriptions based on common data model template. Which can be further consumed by a cloud site/local controller to support EtE automation and hierarchical network control will achieve the agile, low latency, fast auto-scaling and other new requirements from 5G and MEC.

Considerations of Modelling Evolution in ONAP
ONAP is a model driven platform for automation. Model driven implies a number of things from modelling the resources and services under the control of ONAP via the modelling of the interfaces between the components that comprise ONAP through to modelling directives that control all life-cycle aspects so as to enable zero-touch, fully automated operations. ONAP is not the only industry effort working with model based approaches, others are as well. This presentation will discuss what a model driven approach means for ONAP and how that relates to other industry initiatives

Progressing ONAP Testing and Integration With a "Dummy VNF"
The testing and integration of ONAP can develop quickest if the designers can do their testing locally. To have the real VNFs locally is cumbersome and requires the designers to have knowledge of the VNFs to use it for their use cases . Having a dummy VNF that can be tuned to support different ONAP use cases can accelerate testing and improve the level of End to End testing that is possible

Policy Lifecycle API
This presentation will be an introduction to the upcoming release of the Policy Lifecycle API for Beijing. The Policy Lifecycle API is being introduced to support a richer lifecycle for creating, updating, deleting, querying and deploying policy during design-time and runtime. In addition, the API will be designed and developed using ONAP RESTful API best practices. For design-time, new features will be added to support a lifecycle that mirrors current SDC functionality such as: check-in/check-out, ready for testing, submission for certification, and lastly submission for distribution. These new features will move the policy API one step closer to: 1) integration into the SDC Design-time environment, 2) ability to develop and integrate a Policy Testing/Certification platform that can support flexible environment for doing conflict detection/resolution. For run-time, new features will be added to support runtime deployment of policies that support different modes of operation such as deploying policies in different modes: active, inactive, and safe mode. Platform operations team will have the ability to easily deploy and un-deploy policies to/from the desired mode. In addition, functionality will be added to give the ability for an operations team to retire selected policies at a given date. We would like to use this session to present an overview of the Lifecycle API and garner feedback from the community on the design.

Management of Cloud Native VNFs with ONAP
Cloud Native is a term that describes the patterns of organizations, architectures and technologies that consistently, reliably and at scale take full advantage of the possibilities of the cloud to support cloud-oriented business models. In this paradigm the Cloud Native Applications are developed specifically for deployment in and being managed by cloud environments, delivering on the characteristics associated with cloud. They are container packaged, dynamically managed and micro-service oriented, resulting in better reuse, simplified and cost effective operations and improved efficiency, agility and maintainability. Virtual Network functions are taking their first steps towards Cloud Native Architecture and this poses several interesting challenges for automation platforms like ONAP. The VNFs would now be composing of several microservices each of which can be individually lifecycle managed. Container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes have powerful orchestration capabilities which would takes away most of the burden from higher level orchestrator. The Cloud Native Ecosystem has rich set of solutions for monitoring and optimizing a cloud native deployment which are becoming de-facto standards very fast. In this talk we discuss the implications of Cloud Native VNFs on ONAP and some suggestions on how should the ONAP architecture be evolved to be ready for Cloud Native VNFs.

Enabling Workloads Orchestration in Containers via Multi Cloud
Today ONAP OOM enables deployment of ONAP components as containerized microservices in a k8s cluster. On the other hand, workload deployment and orchestration in k8s clusters is expected to play an essential role in ONAP operational success. This presentation discusses an architectural vision of orchestrating workloads in container clusters via Multi Cloud. The key aspects for a comprehensive ONAP workloads orchestration are discussed, including deploying containerized workloads, e.g. VNFs [IETF NFVRG Talk], into k8s clusters on bare metal in edge cloud. ONAP Multi Cloud component serves as a single platform for deployment and orchestration of containerized workloads as well as classical VM-based workloads in true multiple infrastructures, including clouds, k8s on CaaS/cloud, k8s on bare metal, etc. It simplifies workload management and improves ONAP’s user experience.
