Open Network Automatic Project (ONAP) burst onto the scene as an open source project in early 2016. At the start of ONAP many of the companies and people working on the project began with limited experience in open source. This talk discusses how the ONAP community can continue to learn from established open source networking projects. This presentation will explain 'upstream first' and highlight useful open source process, practice and principles that the ONAP community can adopt from other Open Source Networking Projects like OpenDaylight, OPNFV and OpenStack. As ONAP project matures and focus moves to building a stable, telco grade platform, Open source practice must also continue to improve and mature.
